Tucked away in the semi-rural village of Whaplode, Spalding, Fields Farm is a charming 3-acre smallholding with roots dating back to the 1860s. Once the original farmhouse for the surrounding land, it’s now a peaceful haven lovingly restored by the Heywood family, Stewart, Kate, and their daughters Hallie and Annie — who moved from Essex in 2021 seeking a simpler, nature-connected life.
With no previous experience in animal care, the Heywoods have transformed the farm into a lively home for chickens, ducks, geese, peacocks, rabbits, guinea pigs, goats (Eddie and Patsy), sheep (Bah-Bah and Black Sheep), and seven alpacas (Simon, Charlie, Colin, Robbie, George, Sammy, and Baby Dave).
They’ve worked hard to revive the farm’s original outbuildings and create a space where animals and people alike can thrive. Today, Fields Farm offers a unique space for nature play and outdoor therapy, perfect for individuals, families, and groups looking to relax and reconnect with the natural world.
Meet The Team
Kate – Founder

With nearly two decades in health and social care, I bring extensive experience supporting individuals across a range of settings. I began my career as an auxiliary nurse before moving into social care, qualifying as a social worker in 2016 with a BA (Hons) from the Open University.
Since then, I’ve worked in diverse areas including older adults, physical and learning disabilities, and frontline children’s services. My roles have included hospital discharge and crisis teams, where I developed strong skills in person-centred assessments, solution-focused therapy, and managing complex cases.
I progressed to Senior Social Worker in 2019, gaining leadership experience by supervising staff and guiding practice. In 2021, I became a Lead Safeguarding Practice Consultant, leading on high-profile cases, formal safeguarding inquiries, and collaborating with professionals including the CQC. I’m passionate about ethical, strength-based practice that promotes dignity, independence, and well-being
Charlotte – Founder

With over 15 years in social care, I bring deep experience supporting vulnerable individuals and leading multidisciplinary teams. My journey began while studying for my social work degree in 2009, working as a short breaks carer and youth hostel support worker.
Since qualifying, I’ve worked in roles across reablement, adult learning disability, and adult social work teams. I’ve supported people with mental health needs, physical disabilities, dementia, substance misuse, and complex safeguarding concerns. I also gained significant ain Court of Protection work and supporting individuals in highly complex situations.
I moved into a practice consultant role before progressing to team manager, where I oversaw staff development and daily operations. Most recently, I led the Home First Hub, working across hospitals, community health, and adult social care to improve hospital discharge services and streamline support for individuals and their families.
Outside of work, I’ve volunteered in SEN schools, with SHOUT, and on the YMCA SOS bus, offering emotional support and practical care. I’m passionate about making nature-based therapies more accessible and believe strongly in the value of holistic, community-rooted support.
